Preparing for your Actors Headshots

Thank you for considering to do your acting headshots with myself. My sole aim is to give you some great photos that help you to promote yourself and are genuinely useful to you.

Most Important Advice:

In order to look your best, it’s vital that you arrive to the shoot feeling rested and in the mood to pose and have your photos taken. It’s not always easy, but the best way to prepare is to have a good night’s sleep before the shoot and to avoid alcohol the day before.

What to Wear:

Your acting headshot is all about your face and you need to wear clothes which do not draw away attention. I advise clients to bring a range of plain tops, both black and white that have a clean neckline. If you have dark grey items, this is also acceptable.

Anything with patterns or stripes is a definite no-no. Items such as a plain t-shirt, regular collared shirt, vest top if you’re a girl are perfect. By bringing a selection, we can experiment and find out what makes you look best. If you’re a lady, please check that your bra does not show through your top or have straps which show if you’re wearing a vest.

An actor’s headshot is meant to be a representative of your natural self looking your best. If you’re a guy you should be clean shaven or give thought to tidying your beard/facial hair. If you’re a lady, makeup should be light and natural looking. Your hair should be clean and neat.

Other Good Advice:

Please arrive to the studio on time, and plan your journey and leaving time carefully so that you do not feel rushed and stressed for the shoot. There is often disruption to public transport at weekends in London. Please look at www.tfl.gov.uk to plan ahead.

Expect the process to take some time. In order to get your best photos, we need to experiment and find the best angles for you, realise what expressions represent you best and work together to give you something that you’re happy with. The session will be slow and relaxed.
